Modern Rugby Defenses
This week we show our coaches a running
skills drill, we call the
"Switch pass
running line drill"
, in which players can
practice their switch pass techniques.
This week we show our coaches a very
important passing skills and stamina drill,
we call
"The passing stamina drill".
This is a great high intensity drill.
It is official,  the scrumhalf box kick in the
red zone is now a new tendency against
modern rugby defenses. We look at the
execution and positioning of the kick
This week we look at the correct technique
of
the tackle from the front or the
front-on tackle,
which is one of the three
different kind of tackles in modern rugby.
This  week we show our member
coaches how two of the same moves
produced two tries in the same match. We
call the move the
"Drifting flyhalf move".
Kick-offs -   We look at the modern method
to
"Receive the kick-off" with a catcher
and two lifters (supporters) and with the
hooker as the floating front lifter
This  week we show our coaches a move,
we call the
"Double switch move". This
is a move that beats the defenders with a
double change of direction.
We have been talking for weeks now about
the
"Wing cut move"  and this week we
show our coaches another great try being
scored by the move
This week we show our coaches a very
effective defensive system, we call the

outside rush defense
.  A combination
between the rush and drift defense.

Warren Gatland
Six Nations winning
coach.
To all our coaches                      28th April, 2008
A very large percentage of the coaches I have been working with over the last few years had limited experience
of playing rugby let alone coaching it. From my experience in presenting many of these coaching courses and
also speaking to many coaches, it is evident that the knowledge and understanding of how to coach some of
the basic rugby skills severely limits how much input some coaches can have with their young players.
There is not enough time on the current courses or even enough courses to present enough information for the coaches to
go back to their schools and clubs and teach the basic skills effectively.
If one look at some of the Super 14 teams you can clearly see how important basic rugby skills are at that level and many of
these skills must be learned at an under 9 level. If coaches can’t teach the youngsters these very important basic skills then
they can never become complete rugby players.
At a top level, such as the Super 14, it is very important to maintain the skills levels of the players and one can easily see
that all the struggling  teams like the Highlanders, Lions, Cheetahs and Bulls, have no recognized skilled coaches. I know
that experienced skills coaches are very scarce, but for me they are more important than the attack or defensive or kicking
coaches, whom all these teams have.
What can the ordinary school or club coach do? Coaches must try and get as much knowledge on basic skills as possible
at courses, from the printed media and other coaching aids such as my interactive coaching CD-Roms. For me skills
development is so important that each of my four CD-Roms has a very important section or sections on basic rugby skills
and skills development. We have at the moment a  Birthday Special going on these four CD-Roms (see here under) and
we are selling them at a 40% discount so that more and more coaches can afford these very important coaching aids.
    Greetings,
    Coach Jan

This week we continue the series on how
to develop an effective phase defensive
system. This week we give our coaches a
drill, we call the "In line double hit drill",
which teach players how the use the
double hit or gang tackle to stop an
attacker.
This week we look at a passing drill,
called "The two versus one passing
drill". A great drill in which to practice
players' passing and decision making
skills.
This week we look at a running lines
drill, called "The channel alignment
drill". A great drill in which  players can
practice how to straighten the line, stay
in their channel and fix their opponent.

GOD IS GOOD
"The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him".
- Lamentations 3 : 25
Think of the many ways God was good to you as a coach and give Him praise for what he has
done for you. Rejoice in the Lord and give him praise.
We are celebrating our 3rd Birthday on the 12th of May, 2008
This week we give our coaches a drill,
we call the
"Numbers defensive line
drill", which teach players how  keep
