Video Clip of "drift" defense
|
How does the "drift" defense function?:
In "drift" defence the defender hangs back and move across a defensive channel as the
ball moves across the field, thus plugging holes created for the extra man coming in to the
back-line. In the "drift" defense the defenders take up their positions well inside the
running lines of the attackers.
Advantage of the "drift" defense:
The attacker can only beat the defender on his outside and to tackle a player on the
outside is relative easy for the defender and if the defender tries to beat the defender on
his inside, he runs straight into the drifting defense.

"I am using the "drift" defense in most of my teams and it is virtually impossible for the opposition to score from first phase possession" - Jan Oberholzer
