Modern rugby defences
Week 11
This week we start with a new series showing our coaches how to develop an effective phase defensive system. We start with the most basic drill, the "Straight defensive line drill", which teaches players the art of keeping their defensive line straight.
" To develop an effective phase defensive system, coaches must start with basic of basic drills and this drill is one of them. This drill teaches players the art of keeping their defensive line straight, because without a straight defensive line their will be gaps in the defensive line for attackers to run through." - Jan Oberholzer

On the signal of the coach the two lines of players move forward.
They clap hands in the center..
1. To make it more difficult for the players, the coach can bring in different moves in the center to disorientate the players. 2. The coach can give the moves different numbers, which he call out and the players must act accordingly. |
