Kick-offs -We look at the new tendency of
kicking the
kick-off deep into the triangle
behind the forwards.

"  I know that the Blue Bulls are doing this for quite a
while with their fly-half, Derick Hougaard, but
suddenly some the teams in the Tri-nations is
using this deep kick-off and from what I have seen,
with some mixed results." -

    Advantage of kick-off method:
    1) The ball lands behind the forwards who
are waiting for the kick-off and if there is a
ruck they must run back and do defensive
    rucking.
    2) If the kick-off team puts enough pressure
on the receiver he can only drive forward,
with a resulting ruck in his 22m area,  or he
can kick the ball out. Both are to the
    advantage of the kick-off team.

Disadvantage:
If the kick-off team don't put enough pressure
on the receivers they can kick the ball back
into the kick-off team's half or a good running
back-line can use quick hands to run the ball
    back at them.
We think that this kicking-off method can be combined with the conventional
methods and it can be fruitfully be incorporated into any coach's game-plan. .
