We look at a new variation on the "Gregan Move" in
the second test between New Zealand ans England on
17-06-06
"   This is a refreshing new variation on the "Gregan
move". For me it is perhaps much more suited for the
modern game with their tight defenses around the
rucks. Well done to the All Black team "   -

Lets first look at the original "Gregan Move".
Video Clip of the original "Gregan move"
In the original "Gregan move" the runner who
receives the ball runs straight into the defenders on
the edge of the ruck.
Lets look at the variation on the original "Gregan Move".
Keleher picks up the ball behind the ruck
The runner runs at an angle that draws the
defenders out of their defending positions.
He breaks away and passes inside to Flavel
who is running from behind the ruck
Flavel catches the ball and note the angle he is
running

Note
This is a variation coaches can try with great
success, because it must draw defenders out
of the defending line near the oppositions
try-line.
Note how the  angle he is running draws four
defenders out of their defensive positions
If it is a fast ball from the ruck, Keleher can score
on both sides of the ruck, because the defenders
were drawn out of position and in this match he
scores on the right hand side
