This week we look at a new tendency in
Australian rugby:
The one leg pick up in the
line-out.
Jan Oberholzer shows his new two
leg pick up he designed,
which is faster,
higher and safer than the Australian method.
" I think my method of picking up and supporting of the jumper is safer and more effective than
the Australian method. Always remember that this is something completely new in rugby and it
can always be dangerous if the maximum care is not being taken. "   -

Video Clip of the two leg (jober) lift

Advantage of the double leg lift:
    1) Greater lifting power, because the supporters' hands are closer together.
    2) A faster lift, because the supporters have a better grip round the upper thighs.
    3) A higher lift, between 6 and 8 cm higher, because the supporters' hand are
    closer together.
WARNING: Lifting in the line-out can always be dangerous. Like every new skill, it
is important to first learn the basics, before trying it in a contact or  match situation.
The new tendency: The Australian way
Week 13
The Australian players lift their jumpers on the inside leg.
    Disadvantages of this lift:
    1) There is only space for the grip of one lifter on
the leg, while the other player must still support in
    the conventional way.
    2) Jumper very unstable, not recommended for
    junior players
The new tendency: The jober lift ( Two leg lift)
    The jumper prepares to jump
The supporters each bind on a leg
IMPORTANT: The front man on the
inside leg and the back man on
the outside leg. This sequence is
very important for the jumper to
    keep his balance.
    The supporters lift the jumper
The jumper catches the ball, while
    the supporters keep him steady
    IMPORTANT: The jumper must
keep his upper bodey stiff , to keep
    his ballance

Note: The jober lift, (two leg lift), can become
the benchmark of lifting in the line-outs, in the
years to come. Try it and if it works better, use it.
