This week we look at the basic technique
on how to carry the ball into the contact
situation.
We look as an example at the
bad skills of a top international player.

"  The basic technique on how a player carry the ball into a contact situation is very
important to ensure a quick ball in the ruck that follows the contact  or for an off-load in the
tackle.  "   -
Jan Oberholzer
The bad contact skills of Danie Roussoux, the Springbok lock
and loose forward.
Correct: Danie is running with the ball in both
hands and the defenders don't know if he is
going to make contact or pass
Video  Clip of the bad skills.
Wrong: Now he put the ball under his arm and
the defenders immediately know the he is not
going to pass and they prepare for a double hit
(gang tackle).
Wrong: He carries the ball under his right arm,
with which he is going to make contact. Which
means he can't use his right hand for a hand-off
Note:
It is unbelievable that not one of Danie's coaches, present or
past, could rectify this technique problems in his contact skills
and because of that he is repeating it in every match.
Wrong: He runs straight into the man in front of
him and not into the gaps next to him.
The ball is under the wrong arm and the tackler
is killing the ball, which results in a slow ruck
ball and it is impossible for him to off-load the
ball in the tackle to the player who is in a great
position on his outside.
