This week we show coaches how to teach
young players the
very important skill of
how to correctly execute the swing pass.

"   The swing pass is a very important factor in any
rugby player's armour. The swing pass has
become a short quick pass in modern rugby, while
the torpedo pass is used for the longer passes. For
that reason while executing the swing pass the ball
must travel still, with no toll on the ball and that is
why a player must learn the correct grip and wrist
action.   "   -

An exercise to teach young players the correct basic technique
Video Clips of the Exercise
In this part of the exercise the young player must
keep his elbows on his knees, so that he has to
use the correct grip and wrist action to produce a
still ball, with little toll on the ball.
In the last part of the exercise the young player
swings his arms freely through his legs, while
concentrating on his grip and  wrist action to
produce a still ball .
