Rugby Coaching Drills
Week 51
This week we give our member coaches the very important
second of the two so called off-load drills, called
"The feed in
the tackle drill"
. This drill can also double as a warm-up and
technique drill.
"  For coaches this two drills are very important, because all top
teams have players who are well skilled in the art of off-loading
in the tackle."-
Jan Oberholzer

The executing of the drill
Exercise / Drill explanation:
1. The runners run as a pair.
2. The initial ball carrier runs to the first
tackler and, upon contact, passes (off-loads
in the tackle) the ball to a supporting player
who, in turn, runs onto the second tackler
and, after contact, passes to the next support
player (off-loads in the tackle).
3. The drill continues.
4. When the runners get to the end of the
grid, they turn and come back down the
channel.
5. The runners and tacklers reverse roles.

    Note:
For our member coaches this drill and last week's drill, "The squares
off-load drill" can be very important in their success as a coach,
because off-loading in the tackle is very important for continuity and
continuity again, is a very important factor in the game we call, modern
    rugby.
We look at the executing of the two handed off-load in the tackle.
The ball carrier runs towards the
defender.
He steps off and draws the defender
with him.
He hold the ball high out of the
tackle.
He gives a two handed pass in the
tackle to his supporting player.
The supporting player catches the
ball and runs through the channel
which was created.
He takes the tackle and gives a one
handed pass to his supporting player.
He makes ready to step off and
draws the defender with him.
