This week we look at one of the great moves from rucks, called "The Gregan 1 move". This is a move between the scrumhalf breaking away and a forward runner on a stand off.
|
"This is a move made famous by the legendary George Gregan. The purpose of the move is two fold - first to get over the advantage line and secondly to tie the close defenders down in the ruck following the move." - Jan Oberholzer

Lets look at "The Gregan 1 move"
|
The execution of the move
|
Preferred field position of the move
|
The running and passing lines
|
The scrumhalf picks up the ball behind the ruck.
|
He breaks away from the ruck with the runner ready to receive the ball on his straight running line.
|
The runner receives a "X"-pass from the scrumhalf .
|
Description of the Move
The scrum-half breaks
away from the ruck and then
gives a “X-pass” or switch
pass to the forward runner
running straight in the first
channel.
Advantage of the move:
This move is designed to draw
the first defender out of his
position next to the ruck when he
follows the running scrum-half,
which then creates a gap for the
forward runner to run into.
