The number 8 picks the ball up
behind the scrum and gives a flat
pass to the shifting scrumhalf.
The scrumhalf passes to the
fullback, who is running in from the
open side.
The scrumhalf puts the ball into the
scrum.
The fullback passes then to the
blindside wing to score.
    Advantage of the move
The advantage of the move is that the opposing scrum-half is out of the
defending equation and by putting an extra attacker , in this case the full-back,
onto the blindside, the necessary space is created for the wing.

Description of the Move
After throwing the ball the into the
scrum, the scrum-half shifts and
receives a flat pass from the
number 8. The scrum-half  then
passes the ball to the full-back,
coming into the blind-side, who
first draws the defenders and then
passes the ball to the wing.
Lets look closely at "The crusader 3 move"
" For me this is a real modern rugby move. We have tried it and it works great, especially in the lower leagues."
- Jan Oberholzer
Modern Rugby Moves
This week we show our coaches a blindside move from a scrum, which we call "The crusader 3 move ". For this move to
succeed the scrum must be on the right hand side of the field.
" This move was first invented by the late Kitch Christie, an old mate of mine and the 1995 Wold Cup winning coach. This move
works on the principle that the defending scrumhalf is out of this defending equation, because he is on the
other side of the scrum."-
Jan Oberholzer

Prefered position of the move
This move can only be done from a scrum
on the right hand side with a big blindside.
The reason is that one of the main
defenders at a scrum, the scrumhalf, is
then out of the defending equation.
