"  Many coaches are so obsessed by winning their
own ball that it never dawns on them that they can
also win the opposition's ball. This is how the
South African team contested the French's five man
line out and won a few of their line-out balls.  " -

Up to now in this situation the
contesting team would have put a
specialized jumper on the outside
to cover for the opposition's
outside jumper, but South Africa
put Os Du Rand. a specialised
lifter, in that position.
When the ball is thrown in he just
steps into the line-out and lifts the
front jumper. Both South African
jumpers now got their specialised
jumpers with them and can contest
the opposition ball with devastating
effect.
The question is what will happen
when the French's outside jumper
moves in and jump in the center ?

The SA jumper at the back, in this case
Victor Matfield, will move one or two steps
forward with his full support and will
contest the ball, which he has done a few
times in this test.
