"Remember, a straight back is necessary for good scrumming" - Jan Oberholzer
|
Getting a straight back:-
An easy way to teach a player to scrum with a straight back is for the
player to stand on his hand and knees and on the signal of the coach
he must pull in his stomach and lift his head. Watch the Video Clip for
a better explanation of the exercise.
NOTE: It will take about 30sec. for video file to load.

The Individual Frontrow Hit
|
Body position before the hit:
Sitting back with slightly bended legs;
Straight back; Head looking up
Body position for loosehead before the hit
Body position for tighthead on the hit
Look at the following:
1)The non hooking
foot is pointing towards
the opening of the
scrum so that the
hooker can strike
further towards the
mouth of the scrum.
2)The hooking foot is
more forward so that
the foot cannot be
pinned down while
scrumming.

Individual exercises for frontrow players: The individual players must practice individually on the scrum machine till their body positions are 100% correct

The Binding in the Frontrow
|
Remember:
1)The loosehead must always bind
first.
2)The hooker bind as high as possible
on the props so that he can get more
forward.
